เมื่อวันเสาร์ที่ 8 กันยายน 2550 กรีนพีซ พร้อมทั้งกลุ่มอนุรักษ์สิ่งแวดล้อมอื่นๆ จัดงานแถลงข่าวขึ้นด้านหน้าศูนย์สื่อมวลชนนานาชาติ 30 นาทีหลังจากนายจอห์น โฮเวิร์ดเสร็จสิ้นการแถลงการณ์เกี่ยวกับการเจรจาเพื่อลดสภาพภูมิอากาศเปลี่ยนแปลงที่การประชุมเอเปค

กรีนพีซตอบโต้ว่าคำประกาศแห่งซิดนีย์ที่เอเปคเป็นการทำให้ประชาชนไขว้เขว เพราะหากปราศจากเป้าหมายที่มีข้อผูกมัดทางกฎหมายแล้ว "การสร้างความไขว้เขวแห่งซิดนีย์" ก็ไม่เกี่ยวข้องและไร้ความหมายในการแก้ปัญหาภาวะโลกร้อน

On September 8, 2007, afternoon, Greenpeace along with other environmental groups held a press conference in front of the international media center, 30minutes after John Howard's statement that climate change negotiations have ended at the APEC.

Greenpeace slammed the APEC Sydney Declaration as a Distraction. With no legally-binding targets, the "Sydney Distraction" is irrelevant and meaningless in addressing climate change.
